Buying SZE
What ships with every device?+
Every unit ships with a documented way in — an SDK, an open firmware, or a community-documented protocol. The reference app is a starting point, not the product.
Is there a subscription?+
Every device works on day one and on day 3,650. Nothing is rented, nothing phones home for permission, and no feature is waiting behind a paywall.
Can I buy for a fleet?+
Volume pricing at 100 units. Custom firmware at 1,000. Your logo at 5,000. Enterprise buyers get a spec sheet and an engineer, not a sales portal.
Who is SZE built for?+
The person who reads the spec sheet before the marketing page is our first customer. The company that needs four thousand units with its own firmware is our second. Both want the same thing: hardware that takes orders from its owner.
Open hardware
What does “open” mean here?+
Full open hardware, open firmware, or a reverse-engineered protocol — these are not the same thing, so every unit carries an exact readout of which one it is.
Why build open counterparts?+
Every gadget you can’t program was designed that way on purpose — the subscription, the sealed firmware, the members-only API. The hardware inside is ordinary. We make the ordinary version and publish the schematics.
How does SZE develop products?+
We don’t re-engineer categories from first principles or raise big to hire big. We modify architectures that already work, ship small runs fast, and let a sold-out batch — not a pitch deck — argue for the next one.
Fleet & B2B
What do enterprise buyers get?+
Enterprise buyers don’t need a lifestyle brand. They need a bill of materials, a firmware contact, and a delivery date. We sell devices the way distributors sell parts: quantity pricing, spec sheets, and an engineer who answers email.
When does volume pricing start?+
Volume pricing starts at 100 units. Custom firmware starts at 1,000. Your logo starts at 5,000.
Can SZE qualify a new unit?+
Tell us the spec you need — or the closed product you want the open version of — and we’ll find it, test it, or build it.
Custom development
What does the program cover?+
From specification to shipped units under one program. Research, requirements, industrial design, engineering, tooling, supplier qualification, quality control, packaging, ramp, and delivery logistics.
Who owns the product and IP?+
Under the Build model, one fixed program fee takes the work from specification through delivered units. You own the product and IP.
What can SZE build?+
Publication readers, capture devices, health wearables, and field glasses — your software on proven hardware without a platform fee.
